ORFs and tRNA genes are listed from the left to the rigth telomere (column 1) with a corresponding gene symbol when defined (column 2). Column 3, a (d) indicates that the probe used contains duplicated sequnces (see Figure 1). In these cases, assignment of transcripts to an ORF or tRNA gene is only tentative. ORF sizes (column 4) are in nucleotides. Transcripts are assigned to ORFs as explained in text. RNA sizes are in nucleotides (column 6), a (-) indicates absence of detectable transcript in any condition. Columns 7 to 15, transcript levels under the various conditions are indicated as follows;2+, equivalent to actin level;+, ten to 100 times less than actin transcript; e, 100 to 1000 times less than actin transcript; void, no detectable transcript. For transcript level measurement, see the text and Materials and Methods. For YKL056c, YKL042w and YKL023w, the pattern of expression is ambiguous because on these Northern blots the actin signal was too low to be reliably quantifiable. Novel RNA (column 1): position of the three RNAs described in the text which cannot be assigned to any ORF or tRNA gene. Notes: ambiguous assignment is indicated by a number in column 5 (see the text): 1, 2, 6, 10, 21, 23: two transcripts compatible with ORF size, in a non-unique probe; 3, 8, 13, 16, 18, 19, 22: transcripts much longer than ORF size; 4, 27, 28: transcripts much shorter than ORF size; 5, 15, 17, 24, 25, 26, 30: one transcript cannot be assigned to one of two or three ORFs; 9, 12, 14, 20, 29: two transcripts compatible with ORF size, in a unique probe; 7, 11: two transcripts compatible with two ORF sizes.
